These Special Sailing Instructions - (SSI’s) are the intentions of the respective Race Organizer’s Race Committee - (RC’s) and the obligation of all competitors. The SSI’s modify and supplement the General Sailing Instructions - (GSI’s). Therefore, for complete information, they must be read in conjunction with one another.
Races in blue are non-Area III races,
but nevertheless are regarded as Races of Interest.

CLASS BREAKS: GSI 7.2 - Race Table A
STARTING SEQUENCE: GSI 8.3. Closed Course Sequence
COURSE: Metro Olympic Course with Fixed Marks per GSI 12. An Olympic course is located around the Starting Area SA1. Eight marks are located at 45º intervals in a circle around the central mark starting from 000º through 315ºT. They are designated “N”, “NE”, “E”, “SE”, “S”, “SW”, “W”, and “NW”. The colors of the marks located at the cardinal points are orange on top with a white stripe. The colors of the marks located at the alternate points are white on top with an orange stripe. The color of the mark located at the center is solid orange. The Race Committee shall fly code flag “E” or “Q” to designate a course as outlined in the diagrams. Additionally, the Race Committee will use English language letters on a placard to indicate the first mark of the course. The Race Committee may choose to drop an inflatable mark to designate the starting and finishing mark per GSI 12. When using an inflatable mark as the starting mark, the Race Committee shall set the starting line approximately 0.20 to 0.25 nautical miles to windward or leeward of the starting area mark.

Chicago to Michigan City
Oldest Continuous Fresh Water Sailing Race
STARTING AREA: SA4 - About 2 NM east of Buckingham Fountain.
CLASS BREAKS: GSI 7.3 - Race Table B.
STARTING SEQUENCE: GSI 8.4 Port-to-Port Sequence.
HANDICAP SCORING DISTANCE: 29.6 Nautical Miles
COURSE: After Starting, all yachts will round the four mile crib leaving it to STARBOARD(N 41 52.36 W 87 32.73) and then in sequence round the following marks to Port: Mark MCA (N 41 45.60 W 87 28.05), Mark MCB (N 41 43.40 W 87 20.85) then return to the four milw crib and leave to PORT(N 41 52.36 W 87 32.73) then continue to the finish line at SA4.
ALTERNATE START: In some weather conditions, the start could be moved 1000-1500 yards southwest of SA4. In such case, the RC shall broadcast the changes on channel 78 before and during the starting sequence.
FINISHING: Yachts shall cross the line between the orange mark at SA4 (approximate Latitude N 41 52.30 and Longitude W 87 35.20) and the orange flag on the RC boat. SA4 is to be left to port and the sail number board shall be displayed on the starboard side. In the event there is a guard mark set near the RC boat, yachts shall not pass between the guard mark and the RC boat.
ALTERNATIE FINISHING: In the event of inclement weather, the RC reserves the right to set an alternate Finish Line ans/or location. In such case, the RC shall broadcast changes on Channel 78 starting after 1200 hours (CDT) with approximately 30-minute subsequent intervals. Whenever a RC boat is not on station at the finish line, finishing yachts shall follow the procedure outlined in the US Sailing prescription to RRS 34 as modified. The last sentence of the US Sailing prescription to RRS 34 is modified to read "If there is no longer an established finishing line, it shall be aline of Longitude bounded by two lines of Latitude. Longitude W87 35.20 and Latitude N41 52.30 & N41 52.20. The finish time shall be the GPS time shown when the finish line is crossed. As each yacht crosses the finish line, they shall notify the RC on Channel 78 within 15 minutes after finishing. If no RC boat is on station, all information requested on the Yacht Finish Report shall be sent by fax (312) 938-3630 or delivered to the COLYC mailbox no later than 7:30 PM (1930 hrs) of the day following the finish of the race.
TIME LIMIT: Only yachts finishing by 8:00 PM (2000 hrs) on 6-2-2007, plus the amount of any postponement time applicable to a yacht's class, will be be considering as finishing. This changes RRS 35.

STARTING LINE: See GSI 13. In addition, a pin boat may be positioned at the pin end of the starting line.
HANDICAP SCORING DISTANCE: 26.2 Nautical Miles
Course: Yachts proceeding offshore in Wilmette area are advised that Sheridan Shore Yacht Club will be conducting local races with starts at 1300. It is requested that racing yachts remain well clear of their starting area and in particular the starting line off Wilmette Point.
FINISH LINE: See GSI 17.2 with the following changes: The finish mark is the green lighted buoy #3 located approximately 0.5 n.m. East of the Waukegan Lighthouse Pierhead. The finish mark will be located at approximately N 42º21.70 Latitude and W 87º47.90 Longitude. The RC may set a guard mark near the committee boat and yachts may not pass between the guard mark and the committee boat. Yachts are also advised that there may be a pin boat at pin end of the finish line and yachts may not pass between the pin boat and pin.
Special Note: Due to the problem of visibility caused by the afternoon sun, the committee boat will station at the west end of the finish line.
FINISHING: Sail Number Boards must be displayed on the PORT side at the finish. The material used in the construction of Sail Number Boards is optional. This changes GSI 17.2. Each yacht is required to report to the RC desk at Waukegan Yacht Club within one hour of their finish and submit a completed Yacht Finish Report.
ALTERNATE FINISH LINE: In the absence of a Race Committee, boats shall finish by crossing Latitude N 42º21.70 between W 87º47.90 and 87º47.97 Longitude.. Upon crossing this alternate finish line, boats shall provide their finish time (according to their GPS time) to the RC on VHF Channel 78. This modifies the US Sailing Prescription to RRS 34. In the event that an alternate finish line is to be used, the RC shall broadcast that information on VHF Channel 78 beginning at 1200 hrs. on 6-23-2007 and repeating at approximately 30 minute intervals.
TIME LIMIT: shall be 2000 hours, 6-23-2007, plus the amount of time of any postponement for a yacht’s class. Only yachts crossing the finish line by their class’s time limit will be considered as finishing. This changes RRS 35. Non finishers MUST notify WYC RC via Channel 78 or telephone to WYC 847-623-4188.
DOCKING: Yachts are to dock in the North Harbor basin as follows. Yachts in excess of 40 feet will go along the east wall in front of the club and immediately north. All other yachts will go north of the mooring basin area and around into the slip at the concrete silos. Rental slips are available in the South Harbor - call harbor master at 847-244-3133.
PROTESTS: See GSI 19, excepting that the Protest Hearing will take place the following Tuesday at the WYC.

STARTING LINE: See GSI 13. The starting mark is a green can approximately 0.5 nm ESE of the Waukegan Pierhead.This Changes GSI 13.1.
HANDICAP SCORING DISTANCE: 26.2 Nautical Miles
FINISH LINE: SA2. The finish mark is to be left to port.
FINISHING: See GSI 17.2. .Sail Number Boards must be displayed on the starboard side at the finish. The material used in the construction of the Sail Number Boards is optional. This changes GSI 17.2.

TIME LIMIT: Shall be 2000 hours, 6/24/2007, plus the amount of time of any postponement for a yacht’s class. Only yachts crossing the finish line by their class’s time limit will be considered as finishing. This changes RRS 35. Non finishers MUST notify the GLYC RC via Channel 78 or by telephone to 630-661-6492 or to 773-278-3130 mailbox 3.

Hamilton Club Trophy
 
This Trophy is awarded annually by the Chicago Yacht Club to the boat with the best average overall fleet position for the three legs of the Tri-State Regatta. If any leg of the Tri-State is postponed or abandoned and not resailed, the number of races scored for this Trophy shall be reduced by that number. All boats eligible for this Trophy, either in a One Design or PHRF class, must have a current LMPHRF certificate.
The Hamilton Club Trophy will be awarded at the annual CYC Mac & Offshore Awards Banquet, November 4, 2007.

HANDICAP SCORING DISTANCE: 50.5 Nautical Miles.
COURSE: Approximately 073 Degrees True. Alternate Starting: In some weather conditions, the start could be moved 1000-1500 yards southwest of SA4. In such case, the RC shall broadcast the changes on channel 78 before and during the starting sequence.
FINISH LINE: The finish line will be located southwest of the St. Joseph harbor entrance at approximately N 42_06.83 Latitude and W 86_30.17 Longitude. The RC boat will make a courtesy radio broadcast of its location. The RC may set a guard mark near the RC boat; yachts shall not pass between the guard mark and the RC boat. See GSI 17. When approximately one mile from finish, each yacht is asked to notify the RC on Channel 78. Each yacht must turn in a
YACHT FINISH REPORT to the Columbia RC ONLY at St. Joseph YC no later than one hour after the final time limit, but not prior to 0830 hours on
9-1-2007.
ALTERNATE FINISHING: Whenever the RC boat is not on station at the finish line, boats shall follow the procedure outlined in the US Sailing prescription to RRS 34, as modified below to report their finish time. In such case the RC shall broadcast the change on Channel 78 starting after 2300 hours on 8/31/2007 at approximately 30 minute intervals thereafter. The last sentence of the US Sailing prescription to RRS 34 is modified to read, “If there is no longer an established finishing line, it shall be a line of Longitude bounded by two (2) lines of Latitude as listed below: Longitude - W 86:30.17 Latitude - N 42_06.83 and N 42_06.93 As each yacht crosses the finish line they shall notify the RC, on Channel 78, of their finish time (GPS CDT time).
TIME LIMIT: Shall be 1300 hours (CDT), 9/1/2007, plus the amount of any postponement to a class start. All marks to port. Life rafts are suggested. Sail Number Boards must be displayed on the STARBOARD side at the finish. Only yachts finishing by their section's time limit will be considered as finishing.

COURSE: 219°T.
NOTICE REGARDING RAILROAD BRIDGE: This bridge will be opened and closed for trains between 0800 and 0900 CDT. The fleet may be notified by radio as to when the bridge will open and close. However, the bridge will be open between 0900 and 1100 CDT to all fleet traffic. Please plan your departure
accordingly, so that your vessel is not late for check-in and/or starting. LIFE RAFTS are suggested.
STARTING LINE: Between a mark on the port side of the starting line and the orange flag on the RC boat northwest of harbor mouth. RC may set a guard mark near signal boat. Yachts may not pass between the guard mark and the signal boat. In the event of inclement weather, the start may be between the line flag on the end of the south pierhead of the St. Joseph Harbor entrance and a stake boat approximately 1000 ft. west.
FINISH LINE: Between a mark and the orange flag on the RC boat northwest of Michigan City Harbor entrance at approximately N 41 44'640 and W 86
54'950. The mark will be to port.
FINISHING: See GSI 17. Sail Number Boards shall be displayed on the yacht's starboard side. Yacht Finish Reports will be required and must be turned in within one hour of your finish at RC headquarters.
ALTERNATE FINISH LINE: In the absence of a Race Committee, boats shall finish by crossing Longitude N 41_44'640 and Latitude W 86_53'950. Upon
crossing this alternate finish line, boats shall provide their finish time( according to their GPS time) to the RC on VHF Channel 78. This is an addition to the US Sailing Prescription to RRS 34. In the event that an alternate finish line is to be used, the RC shall broadcast that information on the VHF Channel 78 beginning at 1200 hrs. on 9/2/07 and repeating at approximately 30 minute intervals.
TIME LIMIT: Only yachts finishing by 2000 hours on 9-2-2007, plus the amount of any postponement time applicable to a yacht's class, will be considered
as finishing. This changes RRS 35.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: Food service will be available all day Sunday and Monday AM. Any Tri-state registered yacht can moor on the wall West and South of the yacht club. Slips can be arranged in the basin via MC Port Authority (219-872-1712) for a fee. The bath house East of the Coast Guard startion is available at no charge. All other bath houses are for MC Port Authority Slip holders and fee paying transients. Entertainment provided Sunday night. Monday breakfast begins at 0600. Take out bag lunches, ice and bottled water is also available. Party in the Pavilion following the race. Do not bring food and drink from yachts onto the club's deck or in the club. Ground rules for all moored vessels on the wall will be given to each captain and/or race boat representative at check-in on Sunday.

HANDICAP SCORING DISTANCE: 31.3 nautical miles.
COURSE: Approx. 286°T
GENERAL NOTICE: See GSI 13. All marks to Port. Time reference CDT.
Liferafts suggested.
RADIO: Channel 78. See GSI 22.
STARTING LINE: Between a mark and the Orange flag on the RC boat approximately 0.5 n.m. northwest of the Michigan City Harbor entrance. If a guard mark is set near RC boat; yachts may not pass between the guard mark and RC boat.
ALTERNATE STARTING LINE: In event of inclement weather, and alternate starting line may be set between two marks outside the Harbor entrance with the Signal boat behind the west breakwater. RC shall broadcast such changes on channel 78 before and during the starting sequence.
FINISH LINE: Boats shall cross the line between the orange mark at SA4(at approximate Latitude N 41º52.67 and Longitude W 87º35.24) and the orange flag on the RC boat. SA4 is to be left to port and sail number board shall be displayed on the starboard side. If a guard mark is set near the RC boat; yachts shall not pass between the guard mark and the RC boat.
ALTERNATE FINISH LINE: Whenever a RC boat is not on station at the finish line, boats shall follow the procedure outlined in RRS 34, as modified below to report their finish time. The last sentence of RRS 34 to read, “If there is no longer an established finishing line, it shall be a line between Longitude - W 87º35.24 and Latitude - N 41º52.67 & N 41º52.57 . The finish time shall be the GPS time shown when the finish line is crossed. As each yacht crosses the finish line, they shall notify the RC on Channel 78 within 15 minutes after finishing with 1) finish time, 2) boat name, 3) and sail number. If no RC boat is on station, all information requested on the Yacht Finish Report shall be sent by fax to LMSRF office (773-276-2343) or delivered to the LMSRF mailbox no later than 1930 of the day following the finish of the race.

COURSES: It is the intention of the Race Committee to run 1 longer-distance closed course race.
TIME LIMIT: The time limit for each yacht to finish the race shall be six hours from the starting signal of their class. Additionally, yachts that fail to finish within ninety (90) minutes of the first finisher in their class shall be scored DNF. This modifies RRS 35 and GSI 18.1.

OVERALL WINNER: In addition to Prizes, an overall winner of the Regatta will be declared among the winners of each section based upon the section that
featured the closest, most competitive racing throughout the Regatta. This will be determined by comparing the finish positions of the first and fifth place yachts within each section. The average corrected time differential between these yachts will also be evaluated in determining the overall winner.

Midwest Open Racing Fleet-MORF

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: The MORF Open will be governed by the MORF General and Special Sailing Instructions which include all necessary race management information (section breaks, starting sequence and times, course designations and Diagrams, etc) and are available on the MORF website at: www.racemorf.org Please download and review the SSIs.

RACE SCHEDULE: Three races are scheduled. Races 1 and 2 are scheduled for Saturday. Race 3 is scheduled for Sunday, at the discretion of the race committee, two races may be run on Sunday if two races are not completed on Sunday.
STARTING AREA: SA7 (N41 51.17, W87 33.41)
COURSE: Typical MORF courses use SA7 circle marks. Course designations, descriptions and diagrams are included in the MORF GSI's available on the MORF website.
RATINGS: Boats will race with LMPHRF ratings unless a rating for a particular boat class exists under the MORF system, at which time that boat will race with a MORF rating. Boats without a LMPHRF rating will be assigned a MORF rating by the MORF Rear Commodore.
SCORING: The handicap course length will be statute miles plus 10%. The MORF Series scoring system will apply with no throwouts.
PROTEST: Protest will be heard at Burnham Park Yacht Club at 7:00 p.m. on the Tuesday following the race unless otherwise scheduled by the MORF Protest Committee Chairman.
PRIZES: The Chicago Yachting and Navigation Trophy will be awarded to the overall series winner in the Spinnaker fleet. The Jim Callahan Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the yacht with the best corrected time in the JAM fleet. Trophies will also be awarded to the top three finishers in each section.
