Chicago Yachting Association's
2007 "Boats of the Year" Championship

You are invited to enter the Chicago Yachting Association’s 2007 “Boats of the Year” Championship. The 2007 Championships will consist of a PHRF Port to Port Series, a PHRF Buoy Series, a T-10 Port to Port Series, a T-10 Buoy Series, a Beneteau 36.7 Buoy Series, a Beneteau 40.7 Port to Port Series, a Beneteau 40.7 Buoy Series and a J105 Series. Each Series will be scored as a separate championship. Additionally, those boats which enter the PHRF and T-10 Divisions’ Port to Port and Buoy Series will qualify for an overall Championship which will be awarded to the winner of each division. The contest rules are printed herein.

Class Competition: Competition will be offered for the LMPHRF classes, the T-10 class, the Lake Michigan J105 class, the Beneteau 40.7 class and the Beneteau 36.7 class. The Class and/or Division breaks to be used are published in the 2007 Area III Sailing Instructions.

Eligible Races: See race days and races as listed in this 2007 Notice of Championship.

Scoring: Scoring shall be by class and shall be limited to boats entered in the championship. A boat not entering a race listed in their series (DNC) will be scored as one more than the number of BOY boats entered in the class (RRS A9). A boat that came to the starting area but did not start, did not finish, retired after finishing or was disqualified shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats that came to the starting area. This changes A4.2. The low point scoring system as set forth in Appendix A of the Racing Rules of Sailing will apply subject to the following modifications:

    1. For all Classes and/or Divisions Buoy Series, all completed races sailed on Boat of the Year Race Days will be scored as eligible races.

    2. All eligible completed buoy races will be subject to the following "throwout schedule".

    Eligible Races 0 to 4 5 to 7 8 to 11 12 to 14 15 to 16 17 to 18 19 to 20
    Throwouts 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
For every race over 20 add 1 throwout

    3. For the PHRF Port to Port Championship, the best 4 eligible races shall be scored in determining the championship.

    4. For determining the best overall for the PHRF Division, the best 3 eligible Port to Port races and best 10 eligible buoy races shall be scored in determining the Champion. The Champion will be the boat with the lowest point total of its section scores for those races.

    5. For the T-10 Port to Port Championship, the best 5 eligible races will be scored in determining the championship.

    6. For determining the best overall T-10, the boat with the lowest combined point score for the Port to Port and Buoy Championships will be the Champion.

    7. For the Beneteau 40.7 Port to Port Championship, all 5 eligible races will be scored in determining the championship.

    8. For every eligible Port to Port race which is postponed or abandoned and not resailed on the same day, the number of races to be scored shall be reduced by one.

    9. Ties will be broken per RRS A8.

Prizes: For all Series Championships, the following prizes will be offered. A First Place prize will be awarded if at least three (3) entries enter a section. A Second Place prize will be awarded for five (5) or more entries, a Third Place prize for seven (7) or more entries, a Fourth Place prize for fifteen (15) or more entries and a Fifth Place prize will be awarded for twenty (20) or more entries.
