Area 4 News

The 2009 Area 4 offerings are detailed in the event section of this site.

The series will remain the same for 2009. The Area 4 Offshore Series and the Area 4 Shoreline Championship will offer great competition within easy travelling distance of our Area 4 yacht clubs. The events comprising these two series will be combined to determine the Area 4 Boat of the Year.

There will be an entry deadline enforced in 2009, with no series signup allowed after June 24th (the start of the Tripp Memorial race). Make note of this and get your forms in early. The 2009 entry form is now available in the Events section of this site.

The Area 4 Lake Michigan Championship will again be available to boats which travel to more regional events. It still incorporates Area IV club's two day buoy regattas, the Tripp Memorial and Queen's Cup, but adds a heavy dose of Chicago ... the NOODs, the Mac, and the Verve Cup.

I think 2009 will be a challenging year. I will try to aggressively market our Area 4 offerings to any and all boats, but I would encourage all of you to be cheerleaders and work to get more boats signed up for all the clubs regattas.

I've adjusted the entry form so they all come directly to me first. This will help me establish the classes earlier and will improve communications. Guy Hiestand will still be the financial workhorse of Area 4, and I'd like to publicly thank him for his many years of volunteer efforts.

I'm excited about the 2009 season. Let's make it the most competitive ever!

Bob Harvey
Area 4 Vice Commodre
