Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation
1st Annual Survey Results
LMSRF has compiled the results of the 1st Annual Survey including all of the essay answers (minus the ones that weren't "G" rated) and has them available for all Lake Michigan Sailors to review. We especially encourage all Organizing Authorities to listen to what the Sailors want. By responding to the needs of your customers, your events may grow and provide better satisfaction for all concerned.
Read the full results at: http://www.lmsrf.org/survey_2009/survey_2009.htm
As a reward for completing the survey, 2 sailors out of 133 who provided their names in a random drawing have won free memberships in LMSRF for the 2009 season. Congratulations Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation Members:

LMSRF presented successful Racing Rules Seminar at Crowleys Yachtapalooza
On March 21, 2009 Crowleys Yacht Yard hosted the Yachtapalooza and asked LMSRF to present the Changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing in 2009. Dr. L. Warwick Coppleson Senior Judge and Glenn T. McCarthy, JPYC Chief Judge presented a slide show working through the changes primarily to Rules 18, 19 and 20. In two hours, the audience of 50 had good exchange and are better prepared for the 2009 racing season. Much of the focus was on the fact that all right of way rules are designed primarily for safety, and that theme was repeated throughout the presentation.
LMSRF presented first ever Introduction to Racing Seminar
Past
Commodore Glenn McCarthy presented a seminar on March 21, 2009 at
Crowleys Yacht Yard Yachtapalooza, which is designed for those who
have never raced before and are considering it, and for all crew who
can pick up on new tools to be a better contributor to their team.
The focus was on what the purpose and function is of the following:
Race Entry, Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, Racing Rules of
Sailing, US SAILING Prescriptions, US SAILING Appeals, ISAF Case Book,
Offshore Rating Rule (ORR), Lake Michigan Performance Handicap Fleet
(LMPHRF, or PHRF), Sailor Classification, and the International Regulations
for Preventing Collisions at Sea (IRPCAS). It was explained how important
it is for all crew and skippers to read all of these documents which
better equips the entire racing team before they head out to race.
Great feedback was provided by the participants There were two who
wish to enter their boats in sailboat racing in the 2009 season. One
asked if he could find someone who has the experience, to join him
for a time period to build his confidence and to keep out of trouble?
It was advised that he submit his request to the LMSRF Yahoo Groups
and see who comes forward. If you would like this seminar run at your
club to help build your fleet, please contact Glenn McCarthy at gmccarthy@thedavidagency.com
