NOTICE OF RACE
2010 Best On Lake Michigan
LMSRF Offshore Championships

Competitors are urged to familiarize themselves with any instructions that are specific to their fleet referred to in this Notice.

Series Descriptions: Offshore fleet champions for Beneteau First 40.7, Tartan 10, and LM-PHRF handicapped boats will be decided by the equally-scored races listed below.

Eligibility: Current membership in LMSRF and US SAILING is required of each owner, skipper or charterer, prior to the deadline for entries for their specific fleet. In addition, competitors are responsible for meeting all eligibility requirements for each individual event, as prescribed by the organizing authority of the event, and also for meeting such class rules and any special requirements their fleet has for this championship series.

Ratings & Special Rules:

  • Only LM-PHRF© yachts having current rating certificates will be eligible for scoring.
  • T-10 competitors shall sail under the class rules that apply for each event.
  • Beneteau First 40.7 yachts shall sail under their respective Class Association and local fleet rules.

Entries & Deadlines: All yachts entering these series must file an Entry Form with the LMSRF office, accompanied by the appropriate fees, and postmarked or filed electronically no later than the deadlines that follow below. The entry form used may be either the form included with this NoR, or the electronic entry form used for Area III races. All yachts whose fleets have prepaid their entry fee must still file the entry form, but do not pay the entry fee for this series individually. Note: Each event in a series will also require its own registration and entry fee.

Deadlines:

  • Beneteau First 40.7: 5/30/10
  • T-10: 6/19/2010
  • LM-PHRF fleet: 6/7/2010

Entry Fee: There is a $20 fee for an individual yacht to enter any of these LMSRF Offshore Championship series, except that the Chicago Beneteau First 40.7 fleet has arranged to pay the series entry fee for all their regular fleet members who participate.

Scoring: Offshore Championship Series rankings will be based on the results as prepared by each Organizing Authority, but scoring series contestants only (exception for LM-PHRF handicap series). RRS A9 is in effect. Throw-out scores will be excluded per the throw-out tables in the series races section that follows. This modifies RRS A2.

LM-PHRF series scoring: A yacht must enter a PHRF-handicapped section of an event in order to be scored (except for the Chicago Mac Race). A yacht’s overall scores in the PHRF fleet will be used for scoring, where available. However for buoy racing events in the series that have no fleet scoring, a yacht’s actual overall raw section placing (that includes boats not entered in this series) shall be used. Any resulting ties for the event shall stand. Should less than 4 series entrants participate in a series event that does provide overall PHRF fleet scoring, a yacht’s raw section placing shall be used for scoring. The Chicago Mac Race results in handicap sections (other than one-design sections) will be scored with a scoring correction “overlay” using their 2010 LM-PHRF© handicap rating. The Harbor Springs Regatta will be scored by a boat’s overall division ranking.

For overall series ties in the LM-PHRF Series, only fleet-scored race scores shall be used as tie-breakers. This changes RRS A8.2.

Prizes: Awards individualized to each fleet: 1 award for 3 to 4 entries, 2 awards for 5 to 8 entries, 3 deep for 9-13 entries, 4 deep for 14-19 entries, 5 deep for 20 or more entries, shall be provided. There will be No Contest for a series with less than 3 entries. The award of prizes and a fleet’s Perpetual Overall Fleet Championship trophy, if any, will be awarded at a venue chosen by each fleet.

Understanding & Liability waiver: In consideration of the opportunity to participate in the Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation (LMSRF) Offshore Championship Series, and being fully aware of the dangers that may befall mariners, each of the undersigned, for themselves and their heirs, legal representatives, successors and assigns, hereby waives any and all claims which he, and any of them may have against LMSRF and all Organizing Authorities involved with the events in this series, including their respective Directors and Members, employees and agents involved in the organization, supervision and conduct of races or arising out of the participation of the undersigned in the LMSRF Offshore Championship Series and its related activities. This waiver is not intended to preclude claims by an individual contestant against another contestant arising out of any alleged negligent conduct of said contestant.

I agree to the Conditions of the races and state that the yacht identified in this entry will be outfitted, equipped and handled in accordance with these Conditions and that the rating filed with LMSRF is the applicable rating for this yacht at the time she starts the series. I specifically agree that it is my responsibility to see that this yacht is seaworthy in hull, rig and gear and that she is competently manned. I accept and agree to all Notices and Conditions of each of the races and any additional Sailing Instructions concerning these Series. Further, I fully understand that entry deadlines and Conditions have been established, and LMSRF will not accept entries that do not comply, and it is my responsibility to comply with these requirements.

2010 LMSRF Area Team Championships

Eligibility: By July 1st, each LMSRF Area Vice-Commodore will select a team of 3 boats from his/her Area from the list of entrants in any of the “Best on Lake Michigan” Offshore Championship Series. (Each team can be a mix of Ben 40.7, T-10, and LM-PHRF© handicap boats)

Team Championship Series Entry & Fee: No additional entry form or fee is required for Area Team contestants.

Area Team Series Scoring: Each team member will receive the points representing his/her finish in section for each race, based on results prepared by the host club. Each race will be scored equally. The lowest cumulative number of points scored by all three members of each team, after throw-outs are taken, will determine the championship. DNF, DSQ and DNS will be given points equal to the total number of entrants in their respective section for each race, plus one.
