The primary purpose of the LMSRF Youth Council is to promote Youth sailing on Lake Michigan.   The Council performs this service by coordinating communication, training and the hosting of racing events.   The Council enables communication between the individual Youth Sailing Programs on Lake Michigan, US SAILING and other Regional Sailing Associations by maintaining a list of youth program contacts from the LMSRF member clubs.   This list serves as a resource for area wide mailings and for use by other member clubs for the purpose of promoting youth sailing events.   The Council assists individual clubs and regional groups to coordinate training symposiums and regatta clinics.

The Youth Council also sponsors an annual LMSRF Youth Championship Regatta.   The venue of this event changes from year to year to provide the young sailors of Lake Michigan an opportunity to test their skills against others by sailing at a variety of yacht clubs around the lake.   Currently the double- handed division is sailed in 420's.   There are two single-handed divisions sailed in Laser Standard rigs and Laser Radial rigs.   There is also an Optimist Dingy division for the smallest of our sailors.
