LMSRF Speaker Series

We have Teams who are anxious to teach at your club. All you have to do is ask. In many cases, clubs will network with other clubs in their area and share the seminar, which we encourage.

Race Management

Maybe you have a new race committee crew or new volunteers for your race committee and they need race management training, but aren’t in need or ready yet for the full blown US SAILING certification programs. We’ll come to your club and ask you to invite your neighboring clubs to bring their volunteers and give a day of training. Just ask our Race Management Chair This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., a US Sailing Race Officer.

Judging

Maybe you have a new protest committee crew or new volunteers for your protest committee and they need protest committee training, but aren’t in need or ready yet for the full blown US SAILING certification program. We’ll come to your club and ask you to invite your neighboring clubs to bring their volunteers and give a half day or full day of training. Just ask our Race Management Chair This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., a US Sailing Race Officer.

Racing Rules

It’s amazing to find when judges ask the parties of the protest in the room, “How many of you own a Racing Rules Book?” Commonly the answer is only one-half of the participants. With so few racers owning books, and fewer studying the rules, Racing Rules Seminars are always a favorite of sailors. We’ll come to your club and ask you to invite your neighboring clubs to bring their sailors for a half day or full day of training. First Time Racers & Crew

What is the most important aspect of racing? Reading! So many make mistakes in a race because they didn’t read. This seminar is helpful to people who have not raced their boats before and for all crew members who haven’t studied the sport. This one-hour seminar will teach the purpose of the following documents:
  • Race Entry
  • Notice of Race
  • Sailing Instructions
  • Racing Rules of Sailing
  • US Sailing Prescriptions
  • Offshore Rating Rule (ORR)
  • Lake Michigan Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (LM-PHRF)
  • Sailor Classification
  • Appeals
  • International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
  • ISAF Special Regulations
  • ISAF Case Book

A handout is given with the web site addresses of the above documents.

When you mate this seminar and provide Mentors to these new racers, with the Mentors providing advice complying with the race documents, organizing crew, rigging, racing techniques, helping guide the new racer around the right marks in the right order, it provides an important way to grow the number of boats on your starting line.
