Womens Sailing

Mission Statement:

The LMSRF Women’s Sailing Committee promotes women’s sail racing competition on Lake Michigan for Offshore, Youth, and One Design sailors. It works to grow the numbers of boats
that are women-owned, women-run, and women-crewed on starting lines.

Grow Womens Racing:
Identify five challenges that we should tackle regarding getting more women racing:
1. Reduce barriers to gender equality on the water
2. (Increase) Opportunity
--access
--network
--advocates
3. Mentorship opportunities: UPDATE: We have started a list of mentors and will continue to ask for mentors from the LMSRF and Women Who Sail the Great Lakes lists.
4. Resource page for women: what opportunities already exist. UPDATE: We are collecting these from LMSRF newsletters, and asking in our own areas.
5. How to keep women sailing, and interested/invested in racing:
--how to keep people from kicking us out of racing before we are ready!
--keep racing women as mentors, even if they stop racing
--train more women for race committee
--there are jobs available to women even after we are (practically) not going to do certain other jobs on the boat
--keep those jobs and opportunities enticing for women racer
