Be The Best On Lake Michigan!
Champions
and award winners for the 2009 season’s Best on Lake Michigan Season
Championships Series are announced! Best On Lake Michigan award winners
will be recognized at the LMSRF Annual General Meeting Saturday Nov.
21, 2009, 10 AM at the Chicago Yacht Club Monroe Street Station. Detailed
full-fleet results and rankings are available and will soon be posted
in Results section under "Best On Lake Michigan" in the left
margin of this page.
Best TARTAN 10
The Best TARTAN 10 on Lake Michigan in LMSRF’s 2009 T-10 Offshore Championship series is WINNEBAGO, campaigned by Tim Rathbun and his crew. Arvid Eiesland’s WILD NORWEGIAN won 2nd overall. Both skippers have been consistent top placers in this series.
Best Beneteau First 40.7
The Best Beneteau First 40.7 on Lake Michigan in LMSRF’s 2009 Offshore Championship series is none other than Fleet Captain Ron Buzil’s VAYU. Ron and his crew have been stalking this very competitive fleet championship as a high placer for a number of seasons now, and this year they give up the role of Spoiler for Fleet Champion. Placing second overall was Jay & Cindy Muller’s DAS BOOT. Third was Tom & Deb Weber’s LA TEMPETE. Fourth place overall was won by the coalition of Bartz, Hardy & Schmidt on their TURNING POINT.
Best LM-PHRF@ boat
The Best LM-PHRF@ boat on Lake Michigan in 2009 in the LM-PHRF@ Offshore Championship Series is Vern McCain’s Sidney 41 SPIRIT WALKER with an outstanding season-long record. Placing 2nd overall was Frank Giampoli’s J/120 JAHAZI, a dark horse newcomer to this series. The 3rd place overall award was won by Jamie Hummert and his Milwaukee Bay crew on Sidney 41 SCOUT, a past fleet champion and perennial top placer in this series.
Area 4 racers steal the 2009 LMSRF Area Team Championship from Area 3 by a fine whisker!
Each year 3 boats from each of the 5 LMSRF areas are selected from among all
Best On Lake Michigan championships entrants to compete in a series of race
events for the PALMER JOHNSON/EDWARD WILLMAN Offshore Team Championship Trophy.
Area 4's Spirit Walker and Gauntlet, through outstanding performance all season long were able to successfully offset the race record of Ticklish, who were able to sail only one of the events, but placed high. The steadier, more solid overall performance by the Area 3 team of Goblin, Painkiller 4 and Maskwa couldn't quite overcome the fall-out of Spirit Walker's exceptional season.
The 2009 LMSRF Best On Lake Michigan Area Team Champions:
Vern McCain -- SPIRIT WALKER / Sidney 41
Guy Hiestand – GAUNTLET / Kaufman 44
Landman's – TICKLISH / SR 33

We especially encourage all Organizing Authorities to listen to what the Sailors want. By responding to the needs of your customers, your events may grow and provide better satisfaction for all concerned.

As a reward for completing the survey, 2 sailors out of 133 who provided their names in a random drawing have won free memberships in LMSRF for the 2009 season. Congratulations Lake Michigan Sail Racing Federation Members:

Update on Donated Boats, Yachts
and Ships
The
new law states that the deduction value of a donated boat, yacht or
ship is limited to the gross proceeds of a sale by the charity on
