Grants-in-Aid Program Updated

Grants Requirements have a number of changes; appllicants need to heed them to guarantee their funding.  There are now four application forms to simplify completing applications and to make it clearer for the Grants-in-Aid Committee to consider and make their recommendations. 2025 LMSRF YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP SETLMSRF Youth Championship

Racine Yacht Club is honored to host the 2025 LMSRF Youth Championship.  It will be in conjunction withour Andrea T. Regatta.  It will be held on Thursday and Friday, July 31 & August 1, 2025.

LMSRF promotes sail racing competition on Lake Michigan for offshore, youth, and inshore one-design sailors. It also provides racing information through its newsletters, e-mails, website and social media, as well as educational programs on race management and judging.

By becoming a member of LMSRF, you and/or your club/organization provide
support to the sport of sailboat racing in the Lake Michigan region.
LMSRF is the organization that joins the activities of Yacht Clubs and Individual sailors on a lake-wide basis.

1.  LMSRF is growing the number of boats on starting lines through a number of initiatives.

2.  LMSRF newsletter Lake Michigan SuRF brings you only the news pertinent to Lake Michigan to your email box.

3.  LMSRF provides its "Crew Board" for all owners and crews to coordinate sailboat racing plans.  Click on link at www.lmsrf.org.

4.  LMSRF is the group that offers training for race committees and judges to provide you a fair competition.


5.  LMSRF makes its Grants-In-Aid program available to individual members for clinic, major championship, and instructor training attendance. 

6.  LMSRF aids in the annual process of scheduling offshore races and regattas to facilitate attendance at premier events at the same time as balancing the need for Area and home club schedules.

11. Individual members' boats are entered in the LMSRF "Best on Lake Michigan" events.

12. LMSRF conducts the Lake Michigan Match Racing Championship.


13. LMSRF selects and sends teams to represent Lake Michigan at the Richardson Trophy Match Racing Championship of the Yacht Racing Union of the Great Lakes based on their finish at the Lake Michigan Match Racing Championship. 

14. LMSRF guides the Area K representation to the biennial U.S. Offshore Championship Regatta for the Lloyd Phoenix Trophy.

15.  Membership supports the maintenance of this comprehensive website and the cost of running this organization.

16.  Individual members who file an appeal of a protest decision of any Lake Michigan region race or regatta pay no Appeal fee for its reconsideration by the LMSRF Appeals Committee. 

17.  LMSRF is the Regional Sailing Association assigned by US Sailing to represent the interests of all Lake Michigan sailors, LMSRF is the organizing authority that fastens it all together for our lake.

18.  Because LMSRF is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, all memberships, donations of sails, equipment, boats, assets, etc., are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

19. LMSRF is the group that most likely has the resources to answer your questions, solve sailing and racing oriented problems, and support the programs and activities that you may have. 7. Through LMSRF's five geographical areas, including about 150 yacht clubs, races are coordinated between clubs to minimize overlapping of dates and courses on the Lake.


8.  LMSRF provides Grants-In-Aid to local yacht clubs and sailing organizations to provide training and support for adult and youth sail training and other activities that promote sailing.

9.  LMSRF member clubs may host its annual Youth Championship. 

10.  LMSRF member clubs may host the Lake Michigan Match Racing Championship.

23. LMSRF member clubs are included in the annual member listing on our web site, featuring all LMSRF individual members and yacht clubs.

24. LMSRF member clubs gain access to leader contacts.

25. LMSRF member clubs can help develop race, regatta and Championship schedules.

26.  LMSRF member clubs receive advance notice for LMSRF sponsored sailing skill and strategy seminars, racing rules seminars, and race management seminars to the provided leader's email address(es).

28. While the five geographic LMSRF Areas run their own meetings very well, the LMSRF parent Board of Directors handles the annual fiscal reports to the various government offices allowing the local areas to focus on sailing and sail racing.
